The Origins of FRAM Soccer Club

Sportsklubben FRAM founded in 1964

Sportsklubben FRAM was founded in 1964.  On April 26, 1981 SNI signed an agreement with FRAM for the operation, maintenance and management of Nansen Field. FRAM was to serve as the operator of Nansen.

In preparation for the 1984 Olympics, improvements were made to the soccer field and a new club house was built at a cost of more than $100,000.  A bank loan was obtained to fund the project, with personal guarantees by several members of FRAM. In 1983, the Nansen Field Foundation, Inc. (NFFI) was established as a California non-profit organization with tax exempt status in order to facilitate fund raising for such improvements to Nansen Field.

A "Blue Ribbon Committee" was formed by FRAM with the purpose of defining FRAM’s role and the future structure and operation of Nansen Field. The committee’s recommendation was to establish a broader base of local community entities to support and operate Nansen Field, while clarifying ownership of the property.

Sportsklubben FRAM and Coastal Quest Soccer Club Merger

In March 2006, the Coastal Quest Soccer Club (CQSC) and FRAM Sportsklubben (FRAM) agreed to merge their youth soccer programs effective immediately. The new organization was named “FRAM CQ” and built upon the strengths of both clubs.

There were many advantages to merging the clubs, the primary advantage was the opportunity to offer soccer for ages 4 through 70+. Starting at age 3-5 we offer Clive’s soccer for tots program  www.soccerfortots.com that runs at Nansen field. For ages 6 – 9 we have the Soccer Academy developmental program. From ages 9 – 18 we offer league play in teams trained and coached by top quality coaches, after that we have men’s and women’s team competing very competitively (currently in 1st position in their respective leagues) through age 70!

The blended organization is Palos Verdes based and draws players from PV and the surrounding cities. FRAM CQ enjoys exceptional playing fields, lighted and non-lighted practice fields, excellent coaches and players and an extremely well organized board who overseas the affairs of the youth program.

By uniting the players, staff and facilities the goal of the new organization was to offer youth players the opportunity to play soccer at one club but at a level of competition that suits their ability whether that be Bronze, Silver, Silver Elite, Gold or Premier.
