Matt played club soccer for Diablo Valley Soccer Club in Northern California. Before Matt began his coaching career he was able to train with Villareal in the Spanish Primera. While Matt only trained for a short time, he saw the game in a different light. After spending time in Europe, Matt returned to California and moved down to Orange County to begin his coaching career. While getting his coaching career of the ground, Matt played for Irvine Valley College and numerous semi-pro teams in the area.
Matt’s coaching experience began at 18 after moving to Orange County. He started at Laguna Beach High School in 2002 and 2003. Matt’s first club job was with Coastal Quest Soccer Club in 2003. CQSC has since become a part of FRAM Soccer Club. Matt began coaching olders and has since moved to the youth of FRAM. From 2007-2009, Matt was the Varsity Head Coach at North Torrance High School. Matt led North High to a 23-3-4 league record, back-2-back Pioneer League Titles, and their first CIF-SS semi-finals berth. Matt was also named Daily Breeze Coach of the Year in 2009. Matt has also been a coach of both MLS Soccer Camps and Mr. Soccer camps.
Matt now lives in Redondo Beach and is here to stay. Matt’s goals are to develop the youth with a mix of fun and learning. Matt wants to use the success of his teams as a stepping stone to eventually be involved in the US Soccer Program.
